Police have charged six teens, including a 13-year-old, over the death of Declan Cutler in “one of the most violent and brutal attacks” police have seen.

Police have charged six teenagers — the youngest aged just 13 — with murder over the stabbing death of Declan Cutler.

The 16-year-old died in a “violent and brutal” stabbing in Reservoir earlier this month.

Police made seven arrests on Wednesday following a probe into what Chief Commissioner Shane Patton described earlier this week as a “horrendous attack”.

Dylan will be farewelled by his grief-stricken parents at a funeral in Whittlesea on Thursday.

One of the arrested teens, a 15-year-old, has been released pending further inquiries.

Declan was killed in the early hours of March 13, when he and a group of mates ran off from a confrontation at a party.

Declan was pursued through the streets and set upon when his pursuers caught up to him in Elizabeth St, Reservoir.

His mother, Sam Cutler, has previously said her son had been involved in a dispute over “a girl”.

She said the fatal attack on her son was “very, very vicious” and involved the assailants “taking their turns on him”.

Ms Cutler was being comforted by family on Wednesday afternoon.

Assistant Commissioner Bob Hill said the attack was “described by many experienced police as one of the most violent and brutal attacks they have ever investigated”.

“It’s every parent’s worst nightmare, having their teenage child leave the house for a night out with friends and never returning, however this is exactly what happened on this occasion,” Mr Hill said.

Those charged are all teen boys and include two 17-year-olds, a 16-year-old, a 15-year-old, a 14-year-old and a 13-year-old.

Mr Hill said the arrests were “testament to Victoria Police’s unwavering resolve to hold those who commit these extreme acts of violence to account”.

“I know many will be horrified by the young age of those arrested today but let me be very clear – we will be relentless in pursuing anyone responsible for this level of violence regardless of their age,” Mr Hill said.

“There are so many impacted people whose lives have been changed forever by what happened the night Declan died, most of all his family.

“Our thoughts are very much with his loved ones and we will continue to ensure all the relevant support services are made available.”

A written tribute signed by friends and left at the scene earlier this month said “we have lost a walking angel”.

“We all promise to forever keep your memory in our hearts”.
