A shopping centre in Melbourne’s west has become the scene of a violent crime for the second time in a week.
Police were called to Woodgrove Shopping Centre in Melton West about 4pm on Thursday following a fight between a group of teenage girls.
A 15-year-old Melton girl was allegedly assaulted, suffering minor injuries.
A 17-year-old girl, also from Melton, was arrested by police and issued a caution for assault.
A Victoria Police spokeswoman said their investigations remain ongoing.
A witness said they saw police split up two rival groups of girls in the Hungry Jacks car park.
“Two girls brawled outside the Hungry Jacks... this has become a joke,” she said.
One Melton mother said her teens wouldn’t be going to the shopping centre unaccompanied by an adult due to safety concerns.
“It’s sad I have to say to my 15 year old son and my near 13 year old... they won’t be going to the movies or anywhere near Woodgrove without an adult.
“I don’t blame the police, they do their job time and time again but yet the system fails them.”
A social media commenter said the situation at the centre was “out of hand.”
“Lock them up, not slap them on the wrist and let them get away with it,” they posted.
“They know the system now and are far from scared!
“The system isn’t working.”
The latest incident comes just days after a bloody brawl involving machete-wielding teens forced terrified mothers and children to flee the centre.
Police on Tuesday arrested two youths after a 15-year-old boy from Weir Views was taken to hospital with head injuries after the brawl.
A 16-year-old boy was arrested and charged with affray, possess prohibited weapon and being armed with criminal intent.
The boy, 16, applied for bail in a children’s court on Tuesday but his application was refused.
He was remanded to return to court next month.
The other boy, 15, was charged with affray and possessing a controlled weapon that police allege to be a tomahawk without excuse.
His matter was briefly heard at a children’s court on Wednesday, with the child set to apply for bail later this month.
Woodgrove Shopping Centre has been contacted for comment.
