Four prisoners are facing serious charges over a violent ambush that left an inmate fighting for life.
Convicted carjacker Kyle Beattie was targeted in a frenzied stabbing at Barwon Prison, near Geelong, on April 1.
It’s alleged the 23-year-old was jumped by four prisoners who used makeshift knives in the allegedly planned attack.
Beattie suffered life-threatening injuries and was flown to the Royal Melbourne Hospital for emergency treatment.
The shocking case of jailhouse violence was investigated by police who this week charged the four prisoners.
A 29-year-old man was charged with intentionally cause injury, affray and assault and will appear at Geelong Magistrates’ Court on November 17.
A 36-year-old man was charged with intentionally cause injury, affray and assault.
A further two prisoners, aged 30 and 33, were charged with affray.
All three will front Geelong Magistrates’ Court on November 22.
Beattie has convictions for carjacking, ramming a police car, home break-ins, drug offences, car theft, driving matters, weapons breaches and committing indictable offences while on bail.
In one crime wave, he and a mate ploughed a stolen car into a police vehicle to avoid arrest and dragged a woman from her car to steal it.
His co-offender in that case was stabbed in prison while on remand over that incident.
In 2020, a court heard how Beattie and two mates arrived at a Langwarrin home in a stolen BMW and ransacked the property for valuables.
