Six people have been arrested after more than $100,000 worth of methamphetamine was seized in a major police bust, dismantling a northern suburbs drug ring.
Police uncovered more than 370g of the drug after six search warrants were carried out across Melbourne’s north as part of their seven-month drug trafficking investigation.
Officers allege the group of crooks had been selling the methamphetamine directly to those in the community.
They also seized more than $38,000 in cash, a baton, taser, imitation firearm, a money counter and several mobile phones at warrants carried out at Reservoir, Lalor and Epping.
A 39-year-old Reservoir man was last Friday slapped with 23 offences including trafficking a commercial quantity of methylamphetamine, possessing a prohibited weapon, possessing an imitation firearm and dealing with property suspected of being the proceeds of crime.
Another Reservoir man, 28, was on Wednesday hit with 12 offences including trafficking a commercial quantity of methylamphetamine, possessing steroids, dealing with property suspected of being the proceeds of crime and committing an indictable offence while on bail.
An Epping woman, 39, was charged with eight offences including trafficking a commercial quantity of methylamphetamine, dealing with property suspected of being the proceeds of crime and possessing identification information.
They were remanded to appear before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on June 7.
A Lalor man was also charged and bailed while two others were released pending summons.
Detective Senior Sergeant Keith Jordan from the Darebin Crime Investigation Unit said it was crucial officers put an end to the drug ring.
“We all know the devastating impact ice has on our entire community,” he said.
“That’s why we are absolutely committed to removing it from the hands of people who are not only selling it to vulnerable Victorians but also profiting heavily from it.
“Detectives have worked tirelessly on this investigation over many months, but we know our work here is not yet done.
“Our focus will remain on those selling harmful drugs to our community.”
