A special police taskforce has arrested a protester over a Nazi salute and released fresh images of other demonstrators wanted over CBD chaos.
Detectives from the Bastion Taskforce have now arrested 12 people since the Land Forces protests in which activists targeted a military equipment expo at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Among the most recent are a 63-year-old Crib Point man who was detained last week over an alleged Nazi salute.
He is expected to be charged on summons.
The man is among the first to have come under scrutiny over use of the salute since it was made illegal last year.
Far-right figure Jacob Hersant, 24, was earlier this month convicted of making the salute in October last year.
A 40-year police veteran was last month suspended from the force for making the salute.
Also recently arrested by Bastion over the events of September 11 were
A Preston man, 30, who allegedly pushed crates against police and has been charged with nine offences, including affray, hindering/obstructing police, animal abuse and drug possession.
A Nunawading man, 28, who will face one count of affray and seven of hindering/obstructing police.
Two people, a Coburg woman, 27, and Hoppers Crossing man, 31, who were allegedly in an altercation with someone who was attending Land Forces. Both have been charged with affray.
All of those charged will appear in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on November 21.
Bastion was set up in the aftermath of the protests in which activists allegedly threw rocks, a substance smelling like vomit, horse manure, eggs and liquid irritants at officers, police horses and expo attendees.
The 11 arrested subsequently are on top of the 89 charged or fined during the protest.
Bastion investigators have now released fresh images of others they say can “assist with their inquiries”.
They want to speak to them as part of investigations into allegations of assaulting police, animal cruelty, affray, discharging a missile and obstructing police.
Some of the animal cruelty allegations relate to an irritant being placed under the visors of horses which were working at the protest, resulting in them requiring vet treatment.
