Police have warned they will be on their toes when the nephew of Sam “The Punisher” Abdulrahim competes in a fight night this week.
Khoder Abdulrahim is one of the combatants in a boxing event at the QRoom in Thomastown on Saturday night.
Police will have been mindful that uncle Sam has been the target of several murder attempts in recent years.
The most recent was in late May when gunmen ambushed him as he left his Thomastown home in the early hours, responding to a call telling him his parents’ car had been set alight.
Police had previously warned him multiple times that his life was in danger.
There is no suggestion Khoder is involved in any gangland activity.
A Victoria Police spokeswoman said the force was aware of the event.
She said police had worked with the venue and event organisers on safety and security measures.
The spokeswoman said local police and specialist units, including officers from the VIPER taskforce would be at the venue and the surrounding area.
“The community can also expect to see an increased police presence in the area over the weekend.
Anyone who commits any public order offences can expect a swift response from police,” she said.
Sam Abdulrahim is also a boxer and last month had to cancel a bout in Thailand because of an injury he suffered in the mayhem after the shooters pounced at his home in May.
No arrests have yet been made.
Abdulrahim made a remarkable comeback to the ring in 2022 after being shot multiple times as he attended his cousin’s funeral at Fawkner Cemetery.
