Police news: Toddler injured after falling from a vehicle in Cranbourne East

A two-year-old has been flown to hospital after a horror fall from a reversing car in Cranbourne East, with police called to the scene.

A toddler is fighting for its life after falling from a vehicle in Cranbourne East.

The boy, understood to be a two year-old, is believed to have suffered head injuries.

The incident occurred on Sunday morning on Hunt Club Blvd.

The boy was flown to the Royal Children’s Hospital and is in a critical condition.

Pictures from the scene show an air ambulance and police car.

Police said they are investigating after a young child was seriously injured during an incident at a property in Cranbourne East.

“It is understood the two-year-old child fell out of a slow-moving car that was reversing out of a driveway on Hunt Club Boulevard about 10.20am,” a police spokeswoman said.

The child sustained serious injuries and was flown to hospital.

The driver of the car assisted police at the scene.

The boy’s father said it was an accident.

“My wife was trying to move the car away from the driveway, my son was in the car and he opened the door accidentally,” father Ahmed Mohammed told the Herald Sun.

“He’s ok, the doctor said he will be fine. He has some head injuries. He just fell.”

Mr Mohammed said his son Hamed was “shocked” over the accident and was likely to stay overnight in hospital.

ANOTHER FATALITY AT DEADLY CROSSING

A pedestrian has died after being struck by a car in Melbourne’s southeast on Saturday night.

The woman was hit by the vehicle shortly before 8pm as she was crossing Dandenong Rd, at the intersection of Darling Rd in Carnegie.

The pedestrian, who is yet to be formally identified, died at the scene.

The driver, a 33-year-old Box Hill woman, stopped at the scene was taken into custody before she was charged with dangerous driving causing death.

The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are yet to be determined by police.

Dandenong Rd was closed between Burke Road and Chestnut Street as police investigated the incident Saturday night.

Community members took to Facebook to express their condolences, and frustration.

“The problem with that intersection is that you need to be super fast to cross the lights there,” one Facebook user wrote.

“It’s time something is done at that intersection! My thoughts are with the family,” another wrote.

DRIVER DEAD IN TREE CRASH

Another woman also died on Saturday in a single-vehicle crash on the Nepean Highway at the Mornington Peninsula.

Emergency services were called to the scene around 1.25pm after reports a grey SUV crashed into a tree.

The woman, who was the driver of the SUV, died at the scene. Her male passenger was flown to hospital with serious injuries.
