Police are yet to track down infamous Porsche driver Richard Pusey who has managed to evade authorities for almost three months – despite the wanted man attending a court hearing.

Pusey, 45, who has been wanted since November on two outstanding warrants, dialled into a Supreme Court virtual hearing on Wednesday morning as he pursues an appeal.

But despite court staff asking Pusey to turn on his camera, he did not do so.

The Herald Sun understands Pusey – previously referred to by a judge as “probably the most hated man in Australia” – lodged an appeal in late 2022 after he was found guilty of using a carriage service to cause offence and subsequently sentenced to 10 months’ jail.

Magistrate Michelle Mykytowycz found he had sent graphic photos of the Eastern Freeway crash that killed four police officers in a complaint to the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA).

Pusey had been pulled over for speeding in his Porsche on the Eastern Freeway on April 22, 2020, when drug-addled truck driver Mohinder Singh veered into the emergency lane and killed Senior Constables Lynette Taylor and Kevin King and Constables Glen Humphris and Josh Prestney.

Pusey survived because he was urinating on the side of the freeway near some bushes.

After the truck ploughed into the officers, Pusey filmed them as they lay dead and dying while giving an expletive-laden running commentary.

He later lodged a complaint with AFCA after insurance brokers refused to indemnify his Porsche, which was significantly damaged in the crash.

One of the images attached to the complaint was of an officer lying in a pool of blood, while another image showed an officer dead on the roof of Pusey’s car.

Pusey, a former mortgage broker, attended a directions hearing on Wednesday, which was scheduled by the court to make sure the parties are prepared before the appeal bid goes before a judge.

Judicial Registrar Martin Keith told Pusey he had filed documents from proceedings in the County Court, instead of documents from proceedings in the Magistrates’ Court.

“Ah, is that the wrong one, sir?” Pusey replied, although he could not be seen by the court.

He said he would be able to file the correct documents in two weeks’ time.

“Just to clarify, I’m not trying to waste the court’s time,” he added.

“I did request … a hearing to make sure everything was on file that’s correct, so we don’t waste time here today.”

He paused before continuing: “But what would I know? I’m just a dumb-dumb.

“I apologise for being born. Can I go now and find some medication and a glass barbecue (a meth pipe) and get my head right?”

Mr Keith also told Pusey the Office of Public Prosecutions were yet to be served with certain documents, but a lawyer for the OPP confirmed documents were received on Tuesday night.

Pusey replied: “They were served electronically prior to that but the staff at the OPP haven’t bothered – because it’s me – to acknowledge that, which is pretty typical when justice for people like Richard Pusey isn’t done in courts.”

It remains unclear whether Pusey is appealing his conviction, his sentence or both.

Pusey was released from prison in December 2022, due to time already served.

In early November 2023, police released two images of Pusey, asking the public to dob him if they knew his current whereabouts.

On Wednesday, a Victoria Police spokeswoman confirmed the 45-year-old remains wanted on two outstanding warrants for contravening a court order.

She said he is caucasian in appearance, about 190cm tall with short brown hair but is known to make changes to his appearance.

Pusey is known to travel across Victoria both by vehicle and public transport.

Anyone with other information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
