Two teenagers have been charged after police fired shots at a car following a home invasion at Brighton.
The boys, aged 13 and 14, were charged on Saturday night with aggravated burglary, theft of a motor vehicle and other offences.
The alleged offenders forced their way in a Cochrane St home on Saturday at 1.30am and stole car keys and a handbag. They then stole two cars and fled from the scene.
About 50 minutes later, police intercepted a vehicle in a carpark near the intersection of St Kilda Rd and Alma Rd, St Kilda.
As one officer approached, the driver accelerated towards him, knocking him to the ground. A colleague then drew his gun and fired at the vehicle as it sped away.
Two teens were later arrested by members of the Southern Metro Region crime team.
It was the second home invasion in Brighton within days.
Seven teens – one aged 13 – have been charged with aggravated burglary of a home in Yuille St last week.
They were chased from a property by an 83-year-old man brandishing a mop.
Brighton Liberal MP James Newbury said the Brighton community was “deeply disturbed” after the two home invasions this week.

Teen injured in violent tram attack
A 15-year-old boy has been seriously injured in a brazen assault on a tram in South Melbourne.
The teenager was travelling to Southern Cross Railway Station about 9.15pm on Saturday 23 April when two unknown men boarded the tram near Ferrars Street.
The adult pair started harassing the victim’s girlfriend which triggered a verbal altercation between the trio.
In response, the two men assaulted the boy and stomped on his head a number of times.
The tram stopped and the men, believed to be aged in their 40s, fled the scene.
A number of passengers witnessed the attack with one passenger seriously affected by the incident.
The teenager, from Eltham in the city’s north, was taken to hospital with serious head injuries.
Police have released an image of the wanted pair in a bid to identify them.
