A fatal shooting at Noble Park just before dawn on Monday morning was “not a random attack”, with police suspecting the gunman and victim knew each other.
The 36-year-old victim died within moments of being shot, and the suspected gunman smashed a window of a Mitsubishi before fleeing across nearby Ross Park in the dark.
Homicide squad detective Senior Sergeant Nigel L’Estrange said police had a suspect they hoped to arrest, and stressed there were no links to organised crime or outlaw bikie gangs.
On Monday afternoon, police were doorknocking neighbours, canvassing nearby streets for any potential home security camera footage.
“We believe there was more than one shot, and the shots were fired within the house,” Sen Sgt L’Estrange said.
Eyewitnesses from inside the house were helping police with their inquiries, he said.
A neighbour said she had heard a “single, loud bang” at around 6am and thought a car had crashed at an intersection a few hundred metres away.
“I didn’t think the noise had been a gunshot and so close by, I thought a car had crashed a fair way from here,” she said.
Corrigan Rd was on Monday cordoned off between Lightwood Rd and Memorial Drive as police continue to investigate the site of the shooting.
A search remained underway for the shooter, who Sen Sgt L’Estrange encouraged to turn himself in.
