A national run by Rebels bikie gang members has been thrown into doubt by the state’s wild weather.
Hundreds of the outlaw motorcycle gang’s members have descended on northern Victoria for the gathering but it may be a case of all dressed up and nowhere to go.
They were to ride from Shepparton to Bendigo Friday but the Herald Sun has been told there are widespread road closures.
Plans to spend the weekend at the Bendigo Showgrounds are believed to have been thwarted when it was turned into a flooding evacuation centre.
Police had warned the riders they will be closely monitored during the mass gathering, which was to run until Sunday.
Officers from the Echo and VIPER taskforces planned to watch the event, backed by local members and some of the force’s specialist units.
They had warned the bikies they would take swift action over any criminal, road or public order breaches.
The Rebels are regarded as having the biggest membership of Australia’s outlaw motorcycle gangs.
Members were expected from every state and territory for the three days of the run.
Victoria Police Western Region Commander Sharon McKinnon said there would be a visible police presence in the Shepparton and Bendigo areas.
Commander McKinnon said a vehicle checkpoint set up along the route would ensure riders were complying with road rules.
“We will be monitoring all activity and will be ready to take swift action to prevent, detect and disrupt any potential unlawful activity. It will not be tolerated,” she said.
“Victoria Police is not intimidated by OMCGs and we will not allow our communities to be.”
