Nomads bikies arrested over bashing of ex-club president

Six Nomads members, including the bikie gang’s current sergeant-at-arms, have been arrested over the violent attack on the gang’s ex-president.

Police have arrested six Nomads members over the bashing of one of the gang’s former presidents outside its clubhouse in Laverton North last month.

Detectives swooped on properties in Sunshine West, Point Cook, Canadian, Williamstown, and Truganina on Tuesday morning, in a joint operation involving the Ballarat Crime Investigation Unit and Victoria Police’s anti-bikie taskforces, Echo Taskforce and VIPER Taskforce.

Police also searched the Nomads clubhouses in Laverton North and Wendouree.

Warrants were executed in Canadian, Sunshine West, Point Cook, Williamstown and Truganina.

Those arrested were a 26-year-old fully patched Nomad, of Canadian, a 24-year-old Sunshine West man, who is believed to be a sergeant-at-arms in the gang, a 34-year-old Point Cook man, a 29-year-old Truganina man, who is believed to be a vice-president in the gang, a 24-year-old Williamstown man, also believed to be a vice president in the gang, and a 30-year-old Delecombe man.

All six were due to face court late on Tuesday charged with intentionally causing serious injury in circumstances of gross violence.

Police said they seized cash, cannabis and cocaine in the raids.

Police will allege the victim was set upon in broad daylight on 28 July in Weddel Court, Laverton North, and bashed with blunt objects, leaving him seriously injured.

Echo Taskforce Detective Acting Inspector Ash Ryan said the attack was “a brutal assault which occurred in broad daylight, in full view of the members of the public”.

Warrants were executed today in Canadian, Sunshine West, Point Cook, Williamstown and Truganina, The arrest of the 29yo at a Truganina address.

“It represents a severe and unacceptable risk to the safety of our community,” Insp Ryan said.

“We’ve made it clear this year through a number of operations, warrants and arrests that it doesn’t matter what link you have to OMCGs, if you’re engaging in or enabling criminal activity then we will hold you accountable for it.

“Today’s warrants should serve as a reminder that police are committed to identifying and arresting anyone linked to these organised crime groups, whatever role they may play in these offences.”
