A young dad killed in a car crash outside Melbourne Airport on Wednesday has been remembered as someone who lived to make his loved ones proud.
Dennis Wu, 25, died after his car collided with a truck at the intersection of Terminal Drive and Centre Rd in Tullamarine.
His childhood friend Richard Barrera said Mr Wu’s daughter was just a few months old.
He remembered the Tarneit father as “one of the most humble, nicest kids you’ll ever come across”.
“I know, if he had more of a chance he would’ve been one of the best dads around,” he said.
“(His daughter) will know her dad was a good man.”
“If anyone should know anything about him is that he truly was sorry for how things turned out around him.
“All he ever wanted was to live a good life, and to make the people around him proud.”
Mr Barrera told the Herald Sun his loss would have a “major impact” on the area he grew up in.
“We all went to school at Baden Powell College and we are all for the most part still in the same area,” he said.
“He would always be there if you needed him and he wouldn’t be afraid to tell it how it is.
“He had a top sense of humour and he was the definition of ’tough as they come’.
“It all sounds cliched but he really was a top dude.
“A lot of people will miss him and I know they’re gonna remember him for his smile … it was always a day maker to see.”
TRUCK DRIVER RELEASED AFTER HORROR AIRPORT CRASH
The truck driver involved in the horror crash that left Mr Wu dead and a woman fighting for life was released without charge.
The crash happened about 2.40pm on Wednesday.
Mr Wu died at the scene.
The passenger, a 22-year-old Ascot Vale woman, remains in hospital with life-threatening injuries.
She was pulled from the wreckage and stretchered into a waiting ambulance.
The car, that appeared to be a white sedan, was lodged under the truck and badly damaged.
The truck driver was not injured.
Investigations into the crash are ongoing.
The crash, at the entrance to the airport, caused significant traffic delays.
Centre Rd was closed in both directions, with access from the Tullamarine Freeway reduced to a single lane.
Traffic control staff directed oncoming cars away from the scene that stretched across the intersection of Terminal Drive, next to the Holiday Inn.
Police cordoned off the road, where debris was strewn across the intersection.
The Australian Federal Police could also be seen at the crash site speaking with firefighters and Victoria Police.
