Man implicated in George Marrogi meth, heroin heist feared to have fled country

A man being hunted by police after being implicated in a $56m drug shipment set up by crime boss George Marrogi is feared to have fled the country.

Police want to talk to this man in relation to $56 million drug bust

A player in a $56m drug shipment orchestrated by crime boss George Marrogi is believed to have fled Australia.

The man was implicated in the late stages of the 69kg consignment of methamphetamine and heroin which arrived at Melbourne Airport hidden in a box of magnets in February last year.

A court summary by detectives from the Australian Federal Police’s Operation Fuji stated that the man paid a fee to a customs broker to have the drugs collected.

He was caught on CCTV withdrawing $1400 at the Westpac branch in Broadmeadows on February 18 under the name Zachariah Amouche.

The man then went to another Westpac in Roxburgh Park and deposited $1421.80 into the account of Verus Global Pty Ltd, a customs broker.

He wore a disposable mask on that visit.

Verus was unknowingly engaged to collect Marrogi’s illicit cargo but police were already on to what he was up to and the plot was foiled.

In March last year, police appealed for help to publicly identify the man by releasing CCTV footage but he has not been arrested.

The Herald Sun understands he has left Australia.

Marrogi and his girlfriend Antonietta Mannella have pleaded guilty over the 69kg importation, which came from Thailand.

Police suspect Marrogi organised other shipments worth more than $1bn from inside maximum security Barwon Prison, where he was serving a minimum 32-year term for the shooting murder of crime figure Kadir Ors in 2016.

Marrogi, 33, also set up the feared Notorious Crime Family gang from behind bars, but his activities have taken a massive hit in the past year.

More than 20 of his other alleged operatives, accused of laundering his drug profits, were arrested in a major Victoria Police sweep earlier this month.

Among them were his brother Jesse and mother Madlin Enwiya.
