A neighbour said he heard screams coming from a Sunshine North home, where a young man was found dead inside.

Police investigate Sunshine North death

A man has been found dead inside a Sunshine North home.

Neighbours heard screams coming from the Essex St property before the 24-year-old’s body was found on Tuesday night.

Police said they were treating the crime as “targeted”, as investigators combed the scene for clues on Wednesday morning.

Detectives seized several bags of evidence, with one bag containing cash.

Police are hunting those involved and have not yet made any arrests.

A police spokeswoman said investigators did not believe the community was at risk due to the targeted nature of the man’s death.

Neighbour Van, who lives across the road, said he saw two or three people running out of the home when he heard screams that left him feeling “so scared”.

He said he heard loud banging coming from the home about 8.30pm.

“He was screaming so loud,” he said.

“I was so scared, I had a bit of anxiety. I was shaking here. I thought seriously (sic) something happened.

“I went to tell my friend … and I saw them run out.”

Van said he did not know the people who lived at the house, but noticed a lot of people came and went from the property regularly.

Van said it was uncommon to hear commotion coming from the house, but on Tuesday night he heard noises that sounded like people “fighting each other”.

“It was like someone hit someone with something,” he said.

It is understood the occupants have lived at the home for about three months.

A worker from Cumberland Manor aged care home, adjacent to the crime scene, said police had visited the home just days earlier.

She said police presence in the street was unusual, but officers had visited the area on at least one other occasion in the past week.

“They were here just recently at that house,” she said. “It’s not normal but they have been here.”

On Wednesday morning, forensic detectives examined the front yard of the home before collecting drug paraphernalia off the grass.

They also examined the single-storey weatherboard home’s front entrance.

A front window appears to have been smashed in.

Investigators collected evidence bags, with one containing a long, thin item wrapped in brown paper.

Houses surrounding the home have also been cordoned off by police.

Homicide squad detectives are investigating and have appealed to people with information to come forward.

Anyone with details about the man’s death should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
