A man who died inside a Belgrave home after an altercation has been described as “irreplaceable” by his heartbroken family.
Max Lawson, 35, died at a Belgrave property about 4.30pm on Sunday after emergency services received reports of an altercation between two men.
It’s understood a stabbing occurred at the property and that detectives are not treating the attack as “random”.
Mr Lawson’s mother Jane told the Herald Sun her son was “loved by many”.
“He was a friend who would do anything for you,” she said.
“And a son, and big brother that cannot be replaced. Our hearts are broken and we now need to live in this new reality of ours.”
On Monday mourners lay flowers outside the house where Mr Lawson died, saying they were “devastated” by his death.
Several neighbours said they heard a woman shouting “let me in” on Sunday outside the house about 5pm but did not hear the altercation between the two men.
A 30-year-old Belgrave man was interviewed and was released pending further inquiries.
Police are awaiting the results of an autopsy to determine how the death occurred.
Police officers and chaplains on Monday conducted welfare checks at neighbours’ houses.
