A man has been charged and police are looking for a second man after a fatal Thomastown stabbing.
Homicide squad investigators have charged the 45-year-old with aggravated burglary with a person present, theft and common law assault.
That man, from Glenroy, was arrested at the scene of the death at a Victoria Drive home on Thursday.
Police were called to the scene after reports of a stabbing.
The victim, a 36-year-old from Doreen, died at the scene despite emergency services’ efforts to save him.
Police said they were still looking for a second man over what appeared to be a targeted attack.
The Glenroy man will appear before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Saturday. A man has been arrested following a fatal stabbing in Thomastown on Thursday evening.
On Friday, detectives appeared to be focusing their attention on the front veranda of the home.
A steady flow of evidence bags was seen coming from the scene throughout the early hours of the morning.
A neighbour, Alain Alford, said he was “freaked out” after hearing about Thursday night’s stabbing, and had thought about moving away from the area.
“I don’t feel safe here at all, I haven’t been feeling safe,” he said.
Lawrence Danger, who has lived in Thomastown for the past 30 years, said the stabbing death was a “total shock”.
“It’s always a very quiet area … it’s a bit of a shock,” Mr Danger said.
“Lots of young people, lots of elderly people, and everyone always says hello to each other when you’re walking down the street,” he said.
But he said he’s seen police in the neighbourhood a couple of times in recent weeks.
