A man is fighting for life after he was stabbed when a nasty fight broke out near Chapel St.

Emergency services were called to St John St in Windsor about 6pm on Thursday following a dispute between the man and the offender.

The man was rushed to hospital in a critical condition with life-threatening injuries.

It’s understood the offender fled the scene on foot.

A section of St John St remained cordoned off as police investigated the incident on Thursday night.

Blood and vomit could be seen splattered on the ground between restaurant Morris Jones and Melbourne Polytechnic’s David Williamson Theatre.

Morris Jones manager, Baptiste Evans, told the Herald Sun he tried to help the victim by using rags to stop the blood from gushing.

“A guy came in and said his friend got stabbed so I went out the back and saw a guy lying there with his guts poured out so I called an ambulance,” he said.

“We got rags to try and stop the blood flowing but we couldn’t do anything because his whole guts and intestines were poured out.”

The 26-year-old manager said he was concerned for the victim.

He said he didn’t want to leave him alone and wanted to make sure he got the care he needed.

“I stayed with him until they came and took him to hospital,” he said.

Brad, 35, said he heard screaming and yelling.

“I was sitting about 50m away from where it happened,” he said.

“I heard a lot of screaming and yelling for about 30 seconds and then silence so didn’t think too much of it.

“Then I saw a police car spin around and come speeding down the street and several other police cars and ambulances were here within a couple of minutes.”

A business owner, who asked not to be named due to safety reasons, said she was terrified.

“I saw a person covered in a bloody T-shirt so I quickly locked the doors as I got scared,” she said.

Another business owner, Monique Wu, said she wasn’t surprised about the stabbing as crime had become a regular event in the busy area.

Meanwhile, just 15 minutes earlier, a woman was stabbed in St Kilda following a fight.

It’s believed a brawl erupted between two women on Barkly St about 5.45pm.

A 31-year-old Werribee woman sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.

The other woman fled the scene on foot.

It is believed the parties were known to each other.

Anyone with information on either stabbing incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
