A Frankston man has been charged with selling weapons to children after a major police operation in the area.

A total of 86 imitation guns, knives, machetes and other weapons were seized from a Station St shop on Thursday.

A 46-year-old Frankston man is expected to be charged with selling a controlled weapon to a child, selling or advertising prohibited weapons and selling or advertising imitation firearms.

A warrant on the shop allegedly uncovered 23 imitation firearms, 33 knives, 15 machetes, 14 foldable knives, one hatchet and one sword.

Acting Inspector Ian Pregnell said all of the weapons had the potential to cause significant community alarm.

“When used in serious and violent crime, they can tear families apart, terrify victims and threaten the wellbeing of society,” Inspector Pregnell said.

“The Frankston community can rest assured that we will continue to thoroughly investigate any reports of weapons being sighted, sold, or advertised and do everything in our power to ensure such weapons never make it to the streets.”
