Man avoids jail after attempted brothel robbery in Heidelberg West

A man who told police he was “pretty cooked” when he pulled a knife on a Heidelberg West brothel manager and demanded money has avoided jail.

A man who pulled a knife on a Heidelberg West brothel manager and demanded money before trying to chase the woman into a staffroom has avoided jail.

Aaron Griffith-Millin, 22, was sentenced to a two-year community corrections order in County Court after pleading guilty to attempted armed robbery.

The Heidelberg West man told police he was “pretty cooked” and “under the influence of meth” when he entered the Pussy Galore brothel and tried to hold up the manager in the early hours of March 29 last year.

Griffith-Millin had been introduced to two escorts and asked if he wanted to engage their services when he pulled a silver flick knife from his pants and pointed it at the manager, demanding money.

The woman ran to a backroom and Griffith-Millin pursued her with the knife, but the two escorts helped her push him away from the room and held the door shut.

He fled the brothel and ran down the street after one of the escorts yelled she was calling the police.

County Court Judge Pardeep Tiwana said it would have been a “terrifying incident” for the three women involved.

“It was spontaneous and opportunistic. Your state of intoxication at the time of offending may explain your conduct, but does not in any way excuse it,” Judge Tiwana said.

Griffith-Millin was found to have a mild intellectual disability after his arrest in March last year.

The court heard he had began smoking meth after the death of his partner in March 2020, who was four weeks’ pregnant with his child.

Griffith-Millin told police he had owed $200 to his drug dealer at the time of the armed robbery attempt.
