Sandra Dobrila came to Australia only a few years ago with “hopes and dreams of a great life”.
Cruelly, her life was taken from her on Thursday by a man she’d met just months ago.
The 41-year-old died in her Mordialloc home in an apparent murder-suicide.
She was among three Melbourne women killed by violence in November alone.
A close friend of Ms Dobrila told the Herald Sun she was “a beautiful soul” with boundless compassion and love for those in her life.
“Sandra was a thoughtful, generous, and vivacious individual who brought light and warmth to everyone she met,” the friend said.
“Her caring nature was evident in the way she always put others before herself, offering support and kindness without hesitation.”
The Herald Sun has been told she had only recently met the man who took her life.
The pair became romantically involved only a few months ago.
It is unknown if they had separated prior to her murder.
It’s alleged the 31-year-old St Kilda man went to the home of Ms Dobrila and killed her before killing himself.
Their bodies were discovered by a concerned associate in the open kitchen and dining area on the property’s second storey.
Ms Dobrila moved to Australia a few years ago with her then-husband.
She had connections to Italy and Croatia.
Her family and friends are reeling at the news of her killing.
“How can a man do that to someone who came to Australia a few years ago with hopes and dreams of a great life? It is unfathomable to think how much she suffered,” her friend told the Herald Sun.
Ms Dobrila is understood to have only moved into the Mordialloc unit a few weeks ago.
She worked at various companies including Academies Australasia Polytechnic and AusVet Endoscopy during her life in Melbourne.
“She had an extraordinary ability to turn ordinary moments into unforgettable memories, reminding us all to embrace joy and live fully,” her friend said.
“She will be deeply missed but forever remembered with admiration and gratitude for the beautiful soul she was.”
Neighbours heard a “bloodcurdling scream” by the person who discovered the pair’s bodies.
Victoria Police Inspector Scott Dwyer on Thursday said an “associate of the deceased attended with concern for one of the victims (who) hadn’t been seen at work, then they’ve contacted police”.
“There is a full investigation under way, we’ll know more once the post-mortem is undertaken.”
Well over 70 women have been killed by violence across the country this year, according to national violence prevention organisation Our Watch.
Barely 24 hours after Ms Dobrila’s body was discovered, another woman was found dead inside a brothel in Footscray.
The death of the 62-year-old Footscray woman is under active investigation by the homicide squad with no arrests yet made.
Vicky Van Aken was also killed in the doorway of her Bayswater home in November allegedly by her violent neighbour, Milorad Zarik, who is in custody.
The body of Brunswick teen Isla Bell was discovered at a waste facility in November, weeks after she was allegedly murdered inside the St Kilda apartment of Marat Ganiev, a man she’d met days earlier.
