A man accused of slashing another man with a knife before hiding in the waters of Albert Park Lake will remain behind bars after seeing a custody nurse about a string of mental health medications.

Jared Raccanello, 32, allegedly stabbed a 27-year-old St Kilda man on a bus on Canterbury Rd in Middle Park after an argument broke out between the pair about 9pm on Saturday.

Police say Mr Raccanello then fled the bus before jumping into the nearby lake in an attempt to hide from police.

Water Police helped pull him from the water after he initially refused police’s directions to climb out.

Paramedics then treated Mr Raccanello and the victim was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Transit Crime Investigation Unit detectives charged Mr Raccanello with intentionally causing injury.

He was absent for a brief administrative hearing at the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Sunday morning and he had not applied for bail.

The court heard Mr Raccanello would be remanded in custody after a custody nurse consulted him about several mental health medications he was required to take.

Mr Raccanello will return to court on Monday morning.
