A teenager has been charged following the stabbing of a man outside a Ringwood nightclub.
The 21-year-old was left in a pool of blood after he was allegedly stabbed by the teen with a hunting knife as he defended his friends.
Police allege he was stabbed in the stomach outside Void nightclub on Maroondah Highway in Ringwood about 3am on Sunday.
He was taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital with critical injuries where he remains in a stable condition.
The 18-year-old Kalorama man was arrested after the incident in Ringwood and has been charged with intentionally causing serious injury.
Police believe the parties were known to each other.
It’s understood the man was allegedly stabbed with a 15cm long hunting knife.
Codie told the Herald Sun he rushed to the scene after he heard screams for help from his car.
“I didn’t see the actually stabbing but I chased the guy off and attended to the young kid on the ground,” he said.
“He was losing lots of blood, I used my shirt to apply pressure as people called for ambulance and staff from nearby club bought medical kits.”
Codie said the alleged offender originally targeted the victim’s friends.
“I feel sorry for this kid,” he said.
“He was just defending his female friends from derogatory remarks that were made to them.
“He had a broken arm, he had no way to defend himself.”
Void is a Las Vegas-style club which opened its doors in April last year, following the closure of the Orange Whip nightclub in 2021 due to the pandemic.
Police said the investigation remains ongoing.
The teen was bailed to appear in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court at a later date.
