A gang of machete-wielding teens have stabbed a ride-share driver during a violent late night carjacking spree in Melbourne’s west.
On Friday night an unsuspecting rideshare driver picked up three youths who, unknowingly to him, were armed with machetes.
After dropping the boys off near Neil Street, Sunshine about 10.30pm the driver was set upon by the teens.
Police allege the 28-year-old Keilor East man was stabbed when the boys attempted to steal his car.
Although a dramatic trail of blood was left on Neil Street on Saturday morning, the driver was able to keep his car and get himself to a nearby police station.
He was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
20 minutes later police were called to another aggravated carjacking on Kinnane Crescent - about 300 metres from where the stabbing had occurred.
Police said that three armed offenders approached another rideshare vehicle making demands for the silver Toyota Camry.
Police allege the driver, a 28-year-old Craigieburn man, was assaulted but was not physically injured during the attack.
The three boys made off in the stolen Camry.
The vehicle was found by police at a drive-through restaurant on St Albans Rd, St Albans.
The teens attempted to drive away when approached by police - colliding with an unmarked police vehicle.
Six teenage boys were arrested at the scene and interviewed by detectives.
A 16-year-old teen was charged with two counts of aggravated reckless exposure of a police officer to risk by driving, damage of an emergency vehicle. criminal damage, theft of motor vehicle, unlicensed driving and being disguised with unlawful intent.
He will appear at a children’s court at a later date.
Two 16 and 15-year-old boys and a 15-year-old teen were charged with theft of a motor vehicle.
Another 15-year-old was charged with theft of a motor vehicle and possession of a prohibited weapon.
Investigations into the attempted carjacking, stabbing and aggravated carjacking are ongoing.
