The distressed loved ones of a woman who was violently bashed in her own home are demanding answers into the mysterious alleged assault.
Rangini Machapu Bijoyan, 31, remains in a stable condition in hospital after she suffered critical head and facial injuries in her Clyde home last month.
The young mother was found unresponsive on her kitchen floor and has been in the intensive care unit at Monash Health since November 15.
Ms Bijoyan has a small number of family members in Australia after emigrating from India a decade ago, and there are few leads on who may have caused her near-fatal injuries.
Loved ones of Ms Bijoyan, who lives alone and works in the disability sector, say they have “no idea” who may have beaten her.
Close friend Manu, who visits Ms Bijoyan in hospital every week, is pleading with police to investigate the matter further.
She said Ms Bijoyan had not been able to move her arms, legs, neck or head and remained under intensive care in hospital.
“She was on the floor in the kitchen,” she told the Sunday Herald Sun.
“She was unconscious with bruises all over her face.
“I don’t know really what happened. Police should investigate whatever happened because we all are confused.
“Honestly, I have no idea. We are demanding justice.”
Manu said Ms Bijoyan had recently separated from her husband, but there were no signs of distress or worry between either of the pair.
“She didn’t tell me anything like that,” she said. “She is such a nice and hardworking woman. She suffered a lot in her personal life.”
Detectives seized the home’s array of security cameras that will likely form a major part of the investigation, which iscontinuing.
Indian community leader Gary Vohra said Ms Bijoyan’s loved ones were rightfully confused.
“It appears to be a case of brutalist force,” he said.
“She’s got quite a few injuries; she’s badly bruised. They look quite severe.
“They don’t know who has caused this – it’s quite mysterious.”
Sheffi Vohra from VOG Lawyers said Ms Bijoyan asked her for financial advice regarding a recent separation.
There is no suggestion any current or former partner of Ms Bijoyan’s might be involved.
“She was under no physical threat, but she was going to speak to me about some other issues,” Ms Vohra said.
“She hasn’t got much family.
“I feel she has got no one here, so we need to demand justice for her.”
