Jealous recluse behind Warburton revenge killing

The cowardly gunman who murdered his former colleague Marty Sheahan outside his Warburton home was jealous of the doting father’s popularity.

Yarra Ranges Council worker Marty Sheahan killed

The cowardly gunman who murdered his former council colleague in cold blood lost his job after stealing a chainsaw which sparked feelings of extreme anger and jealousy toward his victim.

Glenn Usher-Clarke, 57, has been exposed as the ex-Yarra Ranges Council worker who shot dead “gentle giant” and father Marty Sheahan at the entrance of his Warburton home on Wednesday evening.

Usher-Clarke, a recluse with a troubled history, carried out his murderous revenge years after being sacked from council after stealing a chainsaw.

Mr Sheahan, also aged 57, knew about the theft and gave Usher-Clarke an ultimatum before reporting it to the council, which terminated Usher-Clarke’s employment.

A close friend of Mr Sheahan told the Sunday Herald Sun Usher-Clarke was a “low life” who wouldn’t have even got the job if it weren’t for the generosity and kindness shown by Mr Sheahan.

“He was introduced to Marty who actually became a friend and then helped him get the job,” the friend said.

“I get the feeling he was jealous of Marty’s popularity. I don’t know if I’ve met a more popular bloke than Marty.”

It’s understood Usher-Clarke, a father and grandfather himself, had been living on the far south coast of NSW prior to returning to Warburton to kill Mr Sheahan and take his own life.

Mr Sheahan’s friend said Usher-Clarke’s actions have caused irreparable damage to Mr Sheahan’s family, friends and the wider community.

“What he has done is completely senseless and brutal. He has left a trail of despair behind for his innocent victims’ family and friends,” the friend said.

“It is an unforgivable act and obviously premeditated.”

Donations have flooded in to support Mr Sheahan’s widow, Mandy Brown, who was home at the time of the ambush.

Mr Sheahan was gunned down outside his Clarke Ave home about 8.30pm on Australia Day.

Usher-Clarke then fled the scene in his car, driving to public toilets in Wesburn where he ended his life.

Little else is known about Usher-Clarke, who wiped his social media page prior to his murderous act.

Mr Sheahan had worked for council for six years and was a valued member of the infrastructure services department.

He was a mad Sydney Swans fan and adoring father to his children.

One of his sons, Heath Sheahan, said his dad was his “rock” and that he will never stop loving or missing him.
