Police have expanded their investigation into a doctor allegedly caught recording colleagues in a staff toilet at the Austin to include other hospitals in Melbourne and regional Victoria, where he previously worked.

Police have expanded their investigation into a junior doctor allegedly caught recording colleagues in a staff toilet at the Austin hospital to include other health facilities in Melbourne and regional Victoria, where he previously worked.

Junior doctor Ryan Cho, 27, was arrested by the Mernda Sexual Offence and Child Abuse Investigation Team on Thursday July 10 after police uncovered a phone containing alleged recordings.

He was charged with stalking and using an optical surveillance device following the incident at the Austin on July 3.

Police believe the phone was only discovered after being in place for a significant amount of time.

The Herald Sun understands the bathroom where the phone was allegedly placed was in a staff only area, and the general public and patients did not have access to it.

It was also reported this week that staff at the Royal Melbourne Hospital had since been informed Mr Cho was employed there between February 2024 and February 2025.

But police confirmed to the Herald Sun on Thursday night they were expanding their probe to “several additional hospitals” that had been “identified as workplaces of interest”.

“The 27-year-old worked at these hospitals located in Melbourne’s CBD and regional Victoria between 2020 and 2025,” police said in a statement.

“Police are in the process of contacting the additional hospitals and those potentially impacted during the time of the man’s employment.”

The names and locations of the hospitals were not provided.
