A teen accused of a terrifying crime spree across Melbourne’s western suburbs was granted bail for a second time after allegedly breaching curfew to smoke weed.

The 17-year-old boy faced a children’s court on Friday charged over multiple armed robberies in Sunshine, Derrimut and St Albans on Tuesday October 17.

Charge sheets allege he was armed with a machete when he separately robbed four victims of cash, clothing and mobile phones.

One victim was held at knifepoint for just $10, police allege.

The teen is also accused of robbing two victims of airpods and unlawfully imprisoning a male.

The boy was on bail at the time and was given bail again when he fronted court on the charges last weekend.

On Friday, the court heard he had failed to comply with the conditions of his bail but was granted release again by a magistrate who said: “I gave you a chance Sunday, I am giving you a chance today but I don’t give third chances”.

The court heard the boy allegedly breached curfew by smoking cannabis in his garage instead of being inside his father’s home.

The boy also failed to attend a course and youth justice appointment as per his bail conditions.

His lawyer told the court the boy had “fallen short of the court’s expectations” but deserved another chance.

“We are asking for another week for him to demonstrate he can pick up the slack, attend his appointments and continue to stay out of trouble,” his lawyer said.

The magistrate warned she would give no further chances.

“You know how easy it would be for me to lock you up, revoke your bail,” Her Honour said.

“I want 100 per cent compliance – no excuses. You have to stay out of trouble.”

The boy will front court again next week.

New laws will be introduced to parliament on Wednesday to crack down on weapon crimes.

The laws, aimed at stripping guns from criminals, will also prevent the sale of machetes to youth gangsters.

The Bill will amend the Control of Weapons Act to formally call a machete a controlled weapon, meaning they cannot be possessed, carried and used without a lawful reason, or sold to anyone under the age of 18.

The crackdown follows a spate of youth killings and attacks including the alleged stabbing of 16-year-old Pasawm Lyhym in Sunshine last May and the horror abduction of 14-year-old Glen Eira schoolboy Benjamin Phikhohpoom in September.
