Huge bikie police sting in Victoria and NSW

Footage of several dramatic arrests has emerged as part of a huge police sting targeting outlaw bikie gangs and organised criminals on the state’s border.

Police from both Victoria and New South Wales worked to make 47 arrests and laid 112 charges over week which saw drugs, guns and stolen vehicles wiped from the streets.

Five people were taken down by police in Albury on Monday after authorities were tipped off about an allegedly stolen Nissan that had been involved in a police chase through Victoria minutes earlier.

Road spikes were deployed and five people were taken into custody and various illicit drugs were located in the Pathfinder.

Four were slapped with a series of charges, including a 36-year-old man who was also a suspect in a separate border drug operation.

He was charged with an additional 57 drug supply offences and was refused bail.

Police on Tuesday raided a Wodonga home and seized a 3D printer, printed firearm parts, meth, cocaine and an allegedly stolen motorcycle.

A 39-year-old Wodonga man was then charged with a range of drug, weapons and theft offences.

The 63-year-old president of the Black Uhlans OMCG was also arrested in Lavington where cash, drugs, scales and “other items consistent with drug supply” were allegedly seized in a pre-dawn raid on Monday.

Ten firearm prohibition orders were also carried out under Operation Blue Ember.

Victoria Police Detective Inspector Craig Darlow said criminals in the regions would still feel the full force of the law.

“Outlaw motorcycle gangs are recognised as having high levels of involvement in illicit drug importation, production and distribution, illicit firearms trafficking and money laundering as well as extreme violent crime,” he said.

“There can be a perception that it is easier to hide in the country. That is simply not true. If you are involved in organised criminal activity, you will be detected and you will be held accountable, irrespective of a state border.”

NSW Detective Acting Superintendent Glyn Baker said the joint response from both sides of the border paid dividends.

“This type of saturation model — where specialist squads deploy and focus on a particular area for a short space of time — is a proven method of crime-fighting, and our time on the border has been no different,” he said.

It was the second multi-agency sting of its kind to hit the north eastern part of Victoria.
