A suburban meth ring has been dismantled and several weapons have been seized during a western suburbs police probe spanning several months.

Three accused drug traffickers were this week taken down during raids at their homes which saw huge quantities of methamphetamine and 1,4- Butanediol wiped from their hands.

Police on Monday executed a series of search warrants at homes in St Albans, Sunbury and Altona Meadows where more than $150,000 worth of gear was seized.

They seized 25L of 1,4- Butanediol, a recreational drug that slows down the brain with serious sedative effects.

Almost 450g of methamphetamine, which police have estimated to be valued at around $90,000, was also seized.

A St Albans man, 22, was this week hit with a series of drugs charges and will spend the next three months on remand before he fronts Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on December 17.

His charges included trafficking a large commercial quantity of 1,4 Butanediol, five counts of trafficking a commercial quantity of methamphetamine, dealing with the proceeds of crime and possess prohibited weapon.

A Sunbury man, 39, was charged with various drug and firearms offences and was bailed to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

An Altona Meadows man, 46, was arrested over his alleged role in trafficking meth. He is yet to be charged.

A handful of others were arrested for other drug matters and unrelated offences.

Victoria Police Acting Inspector Matt Campbell said it was the work of a lengthy force investigation.

“We are determined to keep dismantling local drug networks and remove significant amounts of illicit substances in the process,” he said.

“Our detectives work every day and night to combat drug-related crime and protect the community from the dangers associated with illicit substances.”
