Homeowner stabs intruder after being knocked out in shock attack

A 68-year-old Craigieburn resident was beaten unconscious by a home invader before taking matters in to his own hands and stabbing the offender.

An alleged home invader is in hospital with serious injuries after a brave homeowner fought back in a shocking incident in Melbourne’s north.

Police are investigating the case that occurred at a home on Neerim Rd in Craigieburn just before 6.30am on Sunday.

The 68-year-old resident woke on Sunday morning to find the alleged offender in his kitchen.

The intruder then allegedly attacked the resident and knocked him unconscious.

When the resident woke up he armed himself with a knife and confronted the alleged intruder, stabbing the man several times before calling police and an ambulance to the property.

The offender was taken to The Alfred hospital under police guard with serious injuries to his upper body and arms.

The homeowner was also taken to hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries and expected to make a full recovery.

Police have not yet laid any charges.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident remain ongoing and police have not ruled out the homeowner facing charges.
