Hit and run: See video of contract killers sprinting to their getaway car after shooting Gavin Preston

Footage has emerged of two masked men sprinting through Keilor Downs — one carrying large bags thought to contain high-powered weapons — after shooting Gavin ‘Capable’ Preston dead.

New CCTV of Preston killers’ escape revealed

CCTV has emerged of two contract killers’ dash to a getaway car moments after they murdered Gavin “Capable” Preston.

The masked shooters were captured on a home security camera, sprinting through Keilor Downs after their brutal slaying of gangland figure Preston at the Sweet Lulu’s cafe on OId Calder Highway.

It came as fresh details surfaced of Saturday’s highly planned execution involving three vehicles parked in various locations around Keilor and a prediction the shooters themselves were now in grave danger.

In the footage obtained by the Herald Sun, one of the contract killers is carrying two large bags as he runs, likely to have contained the two high-powered weapons used to shoot Preston.

The men, dressed in black and wearing gloves, pass the camera on Madras Walk about 15 seconds apart.

It was possible one of them was delayed when his hand caught fire as he tried to incinerate the vehicle used in the hit, an Audi Q5, dumped in Blair Ct a five kilometre drive away.

Madras Walk residents told the Herald Sun that a white Toyota Camry sedan had been parked in their quiet street since Friday morning and took off about 10.30am Saturday.

At least three of those residents suspected it was stolen and called police days before the shooting.

One Madras Walk resident, who wanted only be known as Sarah, said she reported two vehicles parked in her street to police in the days leading up to the shooting.

“On Thursday there was a black Holden Cruze parked on my side of the street, right outside my fence,” she told the Herald Sun.

“It was all tinted windows, and the number plates looked fake, so I rang Triple 0, thinking it was a dumped, stolen car or something.

“And then Friday morning, that car had disappeared and then a white car was parked directly across the road, along the grass.

“That car was there all day Friday and then Saturday morning, it was still there.

“I left to go to the chemist at about 9.30am (Saturday) and came back at about 10.15am and it was still there, I noticed it when we pulled in.

“About 10 or 15 minutes later, it was gone.”

Sarah claimed both cars looked dodgy, which is why she called the force on Thursday night.

“It (the Toyota) was all tinted windows, even the windscreen, you couldn’t even see inside.

“I only worked it out on Saturday night that all the timings made sense.

“They’d planned it before, for sure.”

Multiple residents living on Robbins St – just metres from where the Audi was dumped – also told the Herald Sun they saw the parked Volkswagen in their street on Friday.

On Saturday morning, it had been moved to Cadiz Place.

The hit team’s failure to burn the Audi was a bungle which may have left behind valuable forensic clues and evidence for homicide squad investigators.

But the men may have more problems than police attention to deal with.

A source who told the Herald Sun the killing was an “amateur job” said they were now at risk from the underworld.

Preston is said to have been in regular contact with two of the outlaw motorcycle gang world’s most formidable figures in recent times.

Those men were not likely to accept what had happened well, the source said.

“Gavin had support from some strong people. These are not people you can f … with and get away with it,” he said.

There has already been speculation of a revenge murder contract on whoever orchestrated Saturday’s ambush on Preston, in which his mate Abbas Junior Maghnie was wounded.

Maghnie remains in hospital.

His father Nabil was a friend and running mate of Preston’s before a gunman ended his life at Epping in January, 2020.
