Guns found at alleged ‘menacing’ hoon’s home

Guns have been found at a Macleod home after police swooped on a man for allegedly posting details of hoon meetings to his 20,000 social media followers.

Guns have been seized from the home of a Macleod man amid an investigation into illegal hoon meetings.

The man has been charged with intimidation and incitement offences related to comments about police on social media accounts he operates.

Police said those accounts had 20,000 followers.

Investigators from Operation Achilles — which investigates hoon activity in Melbourne’s west and north — raided his home today in relation to menacing social media comments.

“Following the execution of a search warrant this morning, a 24-year-old Macleod man has been charged with incitement, intimidation of a law enforcement officer and using a carriage service to menace and harass,” a Victoria Police spokesman said.

Investigators seized two registered guns and an “electronic device”.

His shooting licence has been suspended while police apply for its cancellation.

The man has been bailed to appear at the Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court on December 16.

Sen-Sgt Dean Pickering said police were taking a zero tolerance approach to hoon driving and meetings.

“This includes participants, spectators and organisers of this dangerous activity,” he said

“While we are noticing a reduction in the number of events occurring due to our enhanced focus, rest assured police activity will continue.”
