Gun, knife allegedly discovered in car after bizarre Todd Rd crash

Two people have been charged after a crash in Port Melbourne allegedly led police to discover a loaded firearm.

Two people have been charged after a crash in Port Melbourne allegedly led to the discovery of a loaded firearm.

Emergency services were called to reports of the incident on Todd Rd about 7pm on Monday night.

Investigators were told a blue Hyundai sedan was stationary between an emergency lane and road, blocking the left lane.

It was then struck by a merging grey Holden station wagon.

The occupants of the sedan allegedly fled the scene.

A knife and firearm were located inside the Hyundai and police arrested two people at a nearby bus stop.

A 27-year-old Mernda man has been charged with prohibited person possess firearm, possess a controlled weapon, failing to remain at the scene of an accident and drive while disqualified.

He has been remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on April 27.

A 25-year-old Roxburgh Park woman has been charged with prohibited person possess firearm, possess a controlled weapon, failing to remain at the scene of an accident and unlicensed driving.

She will appear at court at a later date.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the collision. Investigations into the incident remain ongoing.
