A man has gone on a car wrecking spree, smashing 20 vehicles across several car dealerships in Melbourne’s south east.

Police are hunting for an axe-wielding man who smashed 20 cars across dealerships in Glen Waverley.

It’s understood the incidents happened at several car dealerships along Springvale Rd between 6-8am on November 2.

Victoria Police said a man used an axe to smash windshields and bodies of about 20 cars.

Monash detectives have released CCTV of a man wearing a hooded jumper making his way from car to car.

The man, who police described as 175cm with curly black hair, then fled the scene on foot.

He was wearing pants with slide shoes and a tan coloured hoodie.
