Footage has emerged of the moment a gang of at least five youths armed with machetes appeared to have carried out an attempted carjacking at a suburban shopping centre.
Video shows five youths wielding at least four machetes running around the carpark of the CS Square shopping centre in Caroline Springs about 5pm on Thursday.
The five teenagers were seen running frantically through the carpark, waving their machetes in the air in what appeared to be two alleged attempted carjackings simultaneously.
A white Toyota Camry, appearing to have been targeted moments prior, was filmed speeding off before a red Toyota Yaris had its mirror slashed with a machete by one of the crew.
The thugs chased both the Camry and Yaris for a short distance before piling back into their black Audi.
It is not known if a police report was made and further details are vague.
The state government’s machete ban won’t be enforced until September which will follow an amnesty period where the weapons can legally be disposed of.
Overseas jurisdictions have previously taken 18 months to introduce a machete ban but the state government is spruiking their plans which will be enforced within six months.
