A Melbourne immigration agent who lured women with job offers before he drugged, raped and filmed them is facing years behind bars after admitting to his vile crimes.

Frank Hu, 39, the former owner of migration and travel agency Lakenest Group, pleaded guilty to raping and sexually assaulting seven women over a three-year period.

The County Court on Tuesday heard Hu, who also went by Xiadong Frank Hu, lured his victims, most of whom were international students, to his Little Collins Street office under the pretence of job interviews, offers or trials.

The rapist offered his victims drinks laced with drugs before filming as he sexually assaulted them while they were unconscious.

In one instance, a woman was intubated and placed on a ventilator before she went into cardiac arrest and required resuscitation after she had an adverse reaction to the drugs.

The woman, who was on her first day of work as a translator, later recalled her drink tasting “bitter” and texting her boyfriend that she felt “dizzy” before she woke up in an intensive care unit.

Several of the women reported feeling nauseous after accepting drinks on Hu’s insistence, with one victim running from the office after noticing white powder falling from the straw of her juice.

Another victim, who was taken to hospital after falling asleep, was told by Hu that she must have been injected with drugs while on public transport.

He also uploaded images of his unconscious victims to a graphic website which depicted women being drugged, filmed and raped.

Most of Hu’s charges relate to one woman who was depicted in thousands of videos and images being sexually assaulted between 2016 and 2019.

The woman read her victim impact statement to Tuesday’s hearing, detailing how she had nightmares about Hu appearing next to her bed while she slept.

“I haven’t felt safe since these things happened,” she said.

“I couldn’t sleep with lights off.”

After his arrest in August 2019, Hu admitted having consensual sex with the woman before continuing after she fell asleep.

He told investigators “when she fall asleep it doesn’t mean stop” and the woman was told about the filming afterwards.

Appearing via video link from custody, Hu required the assistance of a Mandarin interpreter during the hearing.

Hu’s lawyer acknowledged his client’s offending was “extremely serious” but he deserved some leniency due to his guilty plea.

Hu, who also pleaded guilty to intentionally causing injury and recklessly causing serious injury, has already spent 3½ years behind bars and will be sentenced at a later date.
