A jetsetting former dentist who made a name for himself as a cosmetics service guru has been banned from a string of healthcare jobs for five years and hit with record costs.

Myles Holt, originally from Melbourne, was handed his punishment earlier this month after a Northern Territory tribunal found he misled a local court in a case that Holt himself had launched against his former employer over unpaid payments.

The Tribunal had ruled he knowingly gave “false or misleading” evidence and was actually working as a dentist in Singapore while claiming he could not work on Saturdays for personal reasons.

He has now been ordered to pay $100,000 to the Dental Board of Australia – a record cost order for this type of case – to cover the lengthy legal battle that included a failed NT Supreme Court appeal by Holt.

Holt — whose work training dentists in cosmetic services such as Botox had previously attracted fierce debate — was banned from reapplying for his dentist registration for five years over the finding of professional misconduct.

Court documents show Holt did not bother attending the September hearing — and hung up when called by a solicitor — but had argued he should be disqualified for two years instead.

The Tribunal’s written decision, released on October 11, also banned him from working for various types of health services in any role while unregistered.

These included any service that offer dental services, health education services, clinical or practical education and training and mean he cannot offer training in procedures he promoted for years, such as Botox and dermal fillers.

Holt has also been banned from calling himself “dental surgeon”, “medico-legal adviser”, “Doctor”, “Dr”, “Global Clinical Director”, “Honorary Lecturer, Aesthetic Dentistry” while unregistered.

The Tribunal found he was “using his former status as a registered practitioner to legitimise and promote himself as a healthcare trainer” at the Australian Academy of Dento-Facial Aesthetics and said this was a “concern” after their findings of dishonesty.

They also heard he was fined $50,000 by the Singapore Dental October in 2015 for using a qualification he had been warned not to use.

According to his Instagram @DrMylesHolt, the former dentist is now a “Global Healthcare Executive” in Spain.

An Instagram account for he and his partner’s dog, ‘Hudson Rodrigues Banana Bottom the Third’, posted that his “parents were retiring” and heading overseas on October 13.

The post — and subsequent videos of Holt and Hudson on a private jet — did not mention that Holt had been handed a lengthy ban from dental and cosmetic work just two days prior.

Dental Board of Australia Chair Dr Murray Thomas said the years of work behind this month’s findings showed the board “will not tolerate dishonest behaviour from practitioners that undermines the trust in the profession”.

“The Board is delighted the Tribunal recognised the need for honesty and integrity when working as a dentist,” he said.

Dr Holt’s registration will not be automatically renewed at the end of the five year ban.

The Tribunal found he was “clearly not presently fit to be a health practitioner” and the protection of the public would be “undermined” if he was permitted to educate other healthcare workers while banned.
