A man has been charged after two people were allegedly threatened with a gun.

A man has been arrested after allegedly trying to fire at two good Samaritans who were pursuing him in a wild chase through a small town in Gippsland.

Police arrested 36-year-old Moe man Jonnie Gration, who they allege was behind the wheel of a stolen Nissan Tiida when it collided with two cars on the Princes Freeway at about 4.15pm on Thursday.

The car lost a wheel during the collisions, forcing the driver to dump it in Acacia Court in Yarragon.

The driver fled the scene on foot but was confronted by two members of the public.

Police allege the driver then tried to fire a gun at the pair but it failed to fire.

The pair continued to follow the driver and alerted police to his location.

Mr Gration was arrested near the Princes Highway and police recovered the firearm nearby.

He was charged and remanded to appear before the Latrobe Valley Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

Mr Gration refused to leave his holding cell when his matter was called before Latrobe Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

The court heard he was injured during his arrest and may be coming down off drugs.

He was transferred from Moe to Melbourne for medical treatment and refused to even see his lawyer.

He will reappear in court on Monday 20 November.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, or has any footage or information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
