Dramatic footage has captured the moment a stolen car smashed through a popular shopping centre in Melbourne’s east, damaging at least seven businesses.
A white SUV with stolen registration plates reversed into an entrance of Forest Hill Chase shopping centre about 5am Saturday, smashing through glass doors.
The vision shows a person wearing all black watching the car crash through the doors, before they walk in behind it.
Once inside, police said the car travelled an extensive way through the centre, causing significant damage to at least seven businesses.
The vision shows the car smash through the front of a shop before reversing again and driving forward, knocking down a Christmas tree and damaging the kiosk behind it.
The now-damaged car then travels some distance before driving down and smashing into the kiosk again.
Two people can then be seen loading a safe from the kiosk into the back of the car before driving off in the heavily damaged vehicle.
Police said luckily no one was inside the centre at the time.
The car had stolen registration plates of 1VK 7IZ.
Detectives have released CCTV footage in the hope someone who was in the vicinity at the time may be able to recognise those involved.
Any witnesses, anyone with vision or information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
