Homicide detectives are probing how the body of a 76-year-old man came to be discovered hanging out of the side of a car in Melbourne’s east.
Residents at Tidcombe Crescent in Doncaster East discovered the Blackburn North man hanging out of a damaged Holden Commodore about 5am on Monday in mysterious circumstances believed to involve a shooting.
One neighbour told the Herald Sun he heard a loud “bang” shortly after midnight, but only found the man slumped in the driver’s seat of the car with his foot protruding from the vehicle in the morning.
“It sent the dog barking really loudly, but we couldn’t tell what had happened,” he said.
Neighbours said a heated argument could be heard on the street moments before the loud “bang”.
Another resident, who wished not to be named, said he heard at least one man shouting: “You hurt my mate”.
He then shouted: “You’re f---ing dead to me c---t”.
It is not known whether the man lived on the street where his body was found.
The white Holden Commodore appeared to have been badly scraped and damaged on the driver’s side and right passenger side doors.
