Cops stop Mongols Bikies during ‘run’ from Bendigo to Melbourne

After swarming from across the country to ride in convoy, outlaw bikies gathered for a massive party — and a slice of birthday cake.

Bikies in Australia: A short history

Outlaw bikies from across the country rode in convoy from Bendigo to Port Melbourne on Saturday with their Melbourne president Toby Mitchell towards the front of the pack.

Officers from Victoria Police and the Australian Federal Police were closely observing the bikies during their national run, which ended at the Mongols clubhouse at 2pm.

Around 70 took part on motorbikes, with around six support cars also in attendance.

The presence of OMCG members from Western Australia, New South Wales and Queensland was noted by police.

The Mongols were joined by members of the Raiders MC, a support club once reportedly aligned to the Hells Angels.

Wearing club colours and covered in tattoos, the bikies were ordered to get off their motorbikes to be checked over by police as they ended their run.

Mitchell, who was once a member of the rival Bandidos gang, did not lead the convoy and instead rode directly behind a small handful of gang members.

A massive party was held at the clubhouse on Saturday night, with police staying at the scene to observe proceedings late into the night.

The Sunday Herald Sun understands police are keen to see if there are any promotions or demotions following the party.

Club positions are often decided upon at such events.

Police sniffer dogs were used to check each of their motorcycles and footage taken of each bikie in an ongoing intelligence gathering effort by police.

Police officers in uniform, plain clothes and on motorbikes swarmed the street in anticipation of the gang’s arrival.

The Public Order Response Team was also called in to assist at the checkpoint.

Bikies could be seen wearing club colours, including shirts with the one per cent slogan or ‘Brothers Behind Bars’.

One Mongol, hot after the long ride in the sun, stripped off his leathers and smoked a cigarette while waiting at the police checkpoint.

Once inside the clubhouse, the bikies tucked into a two-tier Mongols cake decorated with $100 notes, cigars and a thick gold chain.

Other bikies who did not ride drove to the clubhouse to join the party.
