A killer Comanchero bikie is alleged to have carried out a brutal attack on two maximum security prison officers in Melbourne.

The Herald Sun has been told Richard Ene is at the centre of inquiries into what is regarded by insiders as one of the worst incidents of jailhouse violence against Victorian staff in recent memory.

The officers were left unconscious when they were attacked without warning in a cell at the Metropolitan Remand Centre at Ravenhall on Saturday at 4pm.

Both were knocked to the ground and stomped on during the onslaught, which was described by multiple sources as horrific.

It ended when a colleague and special operations officers rushed to the scene.

The pair was taken to hospital with serious upper body injuries and a third officer was treated at the scene by paramedics.

Victoria Police has confirmed it is investigating events at the Middle Rd facility.

MRC was on Saturday night in lockdown in the incident’s aftermath.

The ambush happened in the Exford management unit, where prisoners are under tight security and do not have as much access as in other units.

The source said the attacker had been moved from the Charlotte section of Port Phillip Prison, where Comancheros are generally held, in recent weeks.

That was allegedly after he tried to incite other prisoners to attack staff at that jail.

Ene was convicted of being the getaway driver in the murder of former Tony Mokbel associate Mitat Rasimi.

The Herald Sun has been told officials from the Community and Public Sector Union have been called in and that MRC is unlikely to open tomorrow.

Ene, 29, from Hampton Park, was last December convicted by a Supreme Court jury of being the getaway driver in the murder of former Tony Mokbel associate Mitat Rasimi.

Rasimi was shot dead in his car on Dawn Ave, Dandenong, in March, 2019.

The court heard Comanchero Laiseni Kakato, 31, fired the fatal shots as Rasimi sat trapped in his Peugeot.

Kakato jumped back in the hit team’s Ford Ranger and told Ene to drive but the wheelman told the shooter to go back.

“No, finish it. Empty the clip,” Ene allegedly said.
