An alleged Mongols enforcer arrested on high-level drug charges was present at a dramatic police shooting two years ago.

Joshua Eddy, an alleged sergeant-at-arms for the OMCG, is one of seven people – including his father and sister – charged after a major weekend police operation centred on the Murray River town of Cobram.

An investigation led by the Echo taskforce allegedly uncovered 2.5kg of cocaine and 1kg of a substance believed to be methamphetamine in a series of swoops.

Mr Eddy, 29, was with a man wounded by Australian Federal Police officers in a confrontation at Greenvale, in Melbourne’s northwestern suburbs, in September, 2019.

It was later alleged that the AFP officers came across a VW parked on the roadside and approached Mr Eddy and the other man, who were with the vehicle.

A court was later to hear the second man opened fire on the police, who responded with shots of their own.

That man was hospitalised but survived his injuries.

It was alleged that the VW – stolen from Healesville – had been fitted with cloned number plates and its boot contained balaclavas, gloves and two tracksuits.

The court was also told there were four pump-style water bottles filled with petrol.

Shepparton Magistrates’ Court heard on Monday that police claim Mr Eddy was the “ringleader” of a Cobram-based drug operation.

He is facing four charges of trafficking a large commercial quantity of drugs, dealing with proceeds of crime and possessing a firearm.

Eddy’s father David, 51, was arrested on Saturday night as he crossed the Barooga-Cobram Bridge back into Victoria.

He is facing 12 charges including four counts of trafficking a large commercial quantity of drugs, possessing proceeds of crime, and possessing a handgun.

Joshua’s 18-year-old sister Jaide has been charged with four counts of trafficking a large quantity of drugs.

Two women, a current and ex-partner of Joshua Eddy, were also among those arrested.

A search warrant was carried out at the Mongols’ Echuca clubhouse, police said.
