Charges that a former member of the Notorious Crime Family gang glassed an underworld foe at the Love Machine nightclub before a suburban shootout have been abandoned.
Douglas Mikhaeel – who was later the target of an attempted hit – had been accused of slashing the victim at the Malvern Rd, Prahran, venue four years ago.
A brawl had broken out in a VIP area of Love Machine in the earlier hours of July 11, 2021.
A court was later told that Mikhaeel allegedly then went to the Greenvale home of another NCF member, Jimmey Barkho.
Associates of Barhkho, among them gangland figure Fadi Haddara, had been at the house during the evening.
Within hours of the alleged Love Machine fracas, seven shots from a 9mm weapon were blasted into a garage where police alleged Mikhaeel was at the time.
A Melbourne Magistrates’ Court hearing was later told Mikhaeel allegedly fired once in return before his gun jammed.
It was alleged that he then left the house and chased the shooters in his Mercedes-Benz.
Mikhaeel later denied being at Love Machine or having had any part in the Greenvale gunfire.
Victoria Police confirmed last week that the charges against Mikhaeel had been discontinued.
It is not known when or why they were withdrawn.
Mikhaeel, 29, survived a brutal attempted hit at Deer Park 18 months after the alleged Love Machine confrontation.
He was driving a car with his partner and two small children as passengers when it stopped for boom gates at Mt Derrimut Rd on January 20, 2023.
Mikhaeel survived after driving himself to Sunshine Hospital for treatment.
He was once a prominent member of NCF, the crime outfit founded by jailed underworld kingpin George Marrogi.
It was involved in massive drug importations, widespread crime of violence and money-laundering before being dismantled in a massive organised crime operation.
Mikhaeel is believed to have previously left the Notorious Crime Family gang, which is now defunct.
