A lone thief has pulled off a $2m watch heist at Chadstone Shopping Centre.
The masked man, dressed in black and wearing orange high-vis, broke into the largest shopping centre in the southern hemisphere before gaining entry into the luxury watch retailer Kennedy on the third floor at 2.40am on Sunday.
A Victoria Police spokeswoman said police believe the offender smashed a number of cabinets, stealing up to 30 watches before fleeing the area.
The expensive items included Rolex and Franck Muller sets with a total value around $2 million.
In a quick dash, he managed to escape with the watches in just four minutes.
Police suspect it could be someone familiar with the store and the Chadstone layout.
Police will be relying upon crucial footage from CCTV cameras to shed light on the thief.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
