Police say they have asked pro-Palestinian activist and burger boss Hash Tayeh to arrange a time to be interviewed over allegations he has incited hatred towards Jews.
A Victoria Police statement issued on Thursday said it had received a complaint about antisemitic comments and that a “person of interest” has been identified.
“They have been contacted, both directly and through their legal representative, to arrange a time to be interviewed.
“It is standard practice for police to interview persons of interest about their alleged behaviour while a matter is being investigated. This is a voluntary interview,” the statement said.
The Herald Sun revealed last week that Mr Tayeh, 33, was under investigation.
Police are looking into whether chants and speeches at pro-Palestinian protests he led in the CBD were in breach of the Racial and Religious Tolerance Act.
“A range of offences are being investigated and other persons of interest may be identified and spoken to as part of this matter,” the Victoria Police statement said.
Mr Tayeh, an outspoken opponent of war in Gaza, is the operator of the Burgertory chain of fast-food businesses.
