Three masked thieves have been caught on CCTV footage bumbling their way through a burglary at a high-end clothing store on Chapel St.
A trio of burglars made off with $21,000 worth of T-shirts and apparel from the up-market Obtainable Store at the South Yarra end of Chapel St early last month.
The store sells high-end brands including Anti Social Social Club and Geedup, with sports hoodies retailing for up to $350 each and T-shirts $150.
The store also sells up-market shoes, including Yeezy sneakers designed by Kanye West worth up to $550.
Police on Wednesday released footage of the burglary in an appeal for public assistance to solve the crime.
The footage shows three men wearing white gloves, face masks and hoodies getting out of a black hatchback at about 3am on March 10.
The trio smashed through the window before loading tens of thousands of dollars worth of apparel into their car out front.
Footage shows one of the offenders getting caught in a tussle with a clothing rack as he tries to pull T-shirts off their hangers.
Meanwhile, another of the offenders tries to take off with a separate clothing rack also stocked with clothing before realising it wouldn’t fit through the front door.
He wrestles to pull the T-shirts — still attached to the railing — through the door, dragging them through shattered glass at the storefront in the process.
Police believe the offenders are aged in their late teens or early twenties.
It marks the latest in a spate of attacks on designer stores in Melbourne.
On Tuesday, would-be thieves smashed through the storefront of the Fendi boutique on Collins St, but didn’t gain access through the roller doors.
The Dior boutique on Collins St, the Louis Vuitton store in Southbank and David Jones on Bourke St have also been targeted.
