The brother of Western Bulldogs star Jamarra Ugle-Hagan has admitted to a drug-driving incident it can be revealed after a suppression order was lifted.
The Herald Sun can reveal Kaawirn Ugle-Hagan, 19, was given a six-month good behaviour bond without conviction for driving a vehicle while cannabis was in his system near Warrnambool in August last year.
Kaawirn’s name was suppressed by Warrnambool magistrate Tim Gattuso last month after his parents raised concerns about how media reporting would affect the mental health of Jamarra, who was not involved in the incident.
Lawyers acting for the Herald Sun challenged the suppression order, arguing it was inconsistent with the principles of open justice.
Mr Gattuso said he took a “cautious approach” in granting the order, noting the concerns raised by the parents.
He initially granted a proceeding suppression order set to expire in 2030 but varied it to an interim order following submissions from Herald Sun lawyers.
The interim order lapsed on Thursday after Kaawirn’s lawyers declined to seek a proceeding suppression order, allowing the Herald Sun to report details of the case.
It comes as 23-year-old Jamarra, who hasn’t played a game in 2025 amid off-field turbulence and a stint at a mental health retreat, returned to training with teammates this week.
