A terrified mother of two has pleaded with Premier Jacinta Allan to “just do something” after machete-wielding thugs broke into her Bayside home and stole luxury cars and a piggy bank while her children slept.

Adele Andrews, who on Tuesday became the latest victim of Melbourne’s home invasion epidemic, said urgent action was needed to protect families, including tougher bail conditions. She accused Ms Allan of having her “head in the sand” on issues such as crime.

“It’s sickening,” she said.

“Just do something. What you’re doing is not working. Putting your head in the sand isn’t working. Make some tough decisions.”

Ms Andrews said she and her family were woken by the sound of the armed offenders breaking into her Black Rock garage early Tuesday morning before making off with thousands of dollars worth of goods.

It wasn’t until she checked the home’s security cameras she realised the huge knife one of the group had been brandishing.

“The size of the weapons (was) terrifying … the machete was, I’d say, 80cm long. It was huge,” Ms Andrews told the Herald Sun. “They had the hoodies, the masks. They’re big, burly characters.”

“It’s just frightening. It’s frightening that they’re so brazen. It’s frightening that they’re so comfortable with doing it. “We were in disbelief for a while … it was just shock at what we’d seen (on the cameras) as far as preparedness of the people that came in,” she said.

Security footage from the Fourth St home shows three hooded and masked offenders calmly walking up the driveway at about 5am.

One of them was seen wielding an enormous machete in his right hand.

Four minutes later, two offenders are seen opening Ms Andrews’ Mercedes parked on the street before driving away.

Seconds later, her Hyundai Palisade is backed out from the garage and driven away by the third offender.

Ms Andrews said the thieves also stole a luxury handbag, wallet, garage remotes and her nine-year-old daughter’s piggy bank – containing $95 in coins and notes – from the kitchen bench.

She said it would take her young daughter some time to recover from the incident.

“She’s OK now but it will be when she gets in bed at night, it will all hit home,” she said. “I suspect it’ll take her a little while to get over this.”

Police say the offender’s Hyundai i30 – which was driven from the scene by a fourth person – was stolen from Chadstone on Monday.

No arrests have been made and the police investigation is ongoing.

Member for Sandringham Brad Rowswell said the state government needed to strengthen bail laws to protect his community.

“It’s clear the Labor government doesn’t give a stuff about the impact of crime on my community,” he said on Tuesday.

“Another night, another home invasion. Every time a family is home invaded in my community, Labor thumbs their nose.”

Brighton influencer Bec Judd shared footage of the incident on social media with the caption ‘Jacinta Allan Victorians are DESPERATE for you to do something about this’.

On Wednesday, Ms Allan conceded that her current bail laws are failing Victorians.

Speaking outside parliament, the Premier said the violence plaguing the state was “completely unacceptable”.

“It’s why the laws need to be changed and they will,” she said.

“I understand that the current laws, the current settings, are not working.

“It’s completely unacceptable to see these repeat patterns of criminal behaviour
